urban planning experts. The term 100% corner is used to describe the heart of a city, a sense of having arrived at the city itself. On the northwest corner is a city owned space referred to as a “pocket park.” For the last several decades, this space has been ignored and all but vacant.

With well over a million visitor transits annually, this intersection is an important crossroads in the economic vitality of the region. Due to the lengthy wait for the traffic signal, this 100% corner often forms the first and/or lasting impression of Newport for visitors and locals alike. As such, the economic development of all Newport, not only City Center, but also the Bayfront, Nye Beach and beyond, is affected by impressions formed at this 100% corner, usually in less time than it takes the traffic light to change.

The Art Deco Heritage Park project will create a dramatic and memorable landmark for Newport and the Oregon Coast. The project is a key part of the revitalization of the district, for the growth and development of existing and new businesses, and the creation/retention of jobs within City Center, the City of Newport and Lincoln County.

The unique 30 foot tall, bridge-inspired, art deco style pylon and park will serve as a symbol of ongoing economic development and provide tangible “concrete” evidence that the Deco District is emerging from decades of neglect and is now ripe for investment.

The intersection of Coast Highway 101 and SW Hurbert Street has been called the “100% corner” for the City of Newport by

The plan triples the length of the current 'park' space through the removal of an existing driveway on Coast Highway. The net result of one lost parking space is achieved by rearranging the parking lot and putting two parking spaces back onto the highway where the driveway had been.
